There are three authentic portraits of Baron William Thomson Kelvin, best known as Lord Kelvin. Kelvin was a highly influential physicist and inventor. He is most famous for his work in thermodynamics and telegraphy. Kelvin was born in Ireland in 1824 and died in 1907.
Elizabeth King (née Thomson) painted Portrait #1. The painting is dated 1886-1887. King (1818-1896) was the sister of Lord Kelvin.
Portrait #2 is a watercolor that was published in Vanity Fair in 1897. The artist was Sir Leslie Ward (1851-1922).
Sir Hubert von Herkomer (1849-1914) painted portrait #3. The date of this painting is unknown. It is likely that there are additional authentic portraits of Lord Kelvin.
