Jean-Jacques de Boissieu was an 18th century French painter and etcher. He studied at the Ecole Gratuite de Dessin in Lyon, but was primarily a self-taught artist. From 1758-1764, Boissieu created most of his prints, and shortly thereafter traveled to Italy with the Duc de la Rochefoucauld.  He returned from Italy with a vast collection of landscape drawings.

Boissieu also was a teacher and received a number of commissions in his lifetime, most notably for the Diderot Encyclopedie. He was highly sought-after during his lifetime as an engraver, and his prints are still coveted by collectors today.
