Dosamantes is one of Mexico’s most important mid-twentieth century artists. Like many of Mexico’s principal artists, Dosamantes studied at the Academy of San Carlos in Mexico City. By the time Dosamantes was in his early twenties, his paintings and prints were exhibited throughout Mexico and the United States.

Dosamantes was affiliated with “Taller Grafica Popular,” the “Sociedad para el Impulso de las Artes Plasticas” and the “Frente Nacional de Artes Plasticas.”

Dosamantes was a great teacher of art in the cultural missions that included Oaxaca, Michoacan, Guerrero, Columa, Coahuila and Chihuahua. In 1946, Dosamantes became the director at the “Taller Artistico Joaquin Clausell,” in Campeche.

During his cultural missions, Dosamantes would paint murals in rural schools One of Dosamantes’ murals can be viewed in what is now a library in Caracuaro, Michoacan, Mexico.

In addition to being a prolific painter, Dosamantes has a strong collection of lithographs and linoleum-block prints. Dosmamantes’ lithographs typically portray portraits of women, often in a rural setting. Many of Dosamantes prints do not indicate edition size, but editions are known two be less than two-hundred and fifty.

The work of Dosamantes is in public collections throughout Mexico City, New York, Washington, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles. The prints and paintings of Dosamantes continue to increase in value. Contact us if you think you may be the owner of a Dosamantes.
