Frédéric Fiebig (1885-1953)

ツ ツ

Frédéric Fiebig was a Lativian painter born in Talsen (Talsi), Latvia near the Baltic Sea. Friebig showed an interest in painting at an early age under the tutelage of Elisabet Auguste Krause. Fiebig eventually enrolled at the prestigious, Imperial Academy of Arts St. Petersburg.

Over time, Fiebig became more interested in modern movements happening outside of Russia. Fiebig decided to move to Paris, where he enrolled at the Academie Julian. In Paris, Fiebig worked to develop his own style, which gradually became looser and more expressive.

Fiebig travelled extensively around Europe, visiting Italy and Switzerland among other countries. Over time his style transitioned from Impressionism, to Cubism to Expressionism. Fiebig is often remembered as an Expressionist through his involvement with the Die Brücke movement.
