Simon Lantara was an 18th century French landscape painter. Lantara began life working the fields as a herd boy, however, his talent caught the eye of Gille de Reumont and he eventually landed himself a position as a painter at Versailles.

Lantara was renowned for his beautiful landscapes, although, it is said that he could not produce his paintings at the demand of his wealthy patrons. Lantara simply created his best work among every day people and surroundings.
