Francis Wheatley was an 18th century British painter. He studied at the Royal Academy School in London and was elected to the Royal Academy in 1791. He traveled extensively throughout Northern Europe and France. Wheatley’s conversation pieces, or small group portraits, were evocative of Grueze, Zoffany, and Benjamin Wilson.
