Ado Vabbe (1892-1961)

Ado Vabbe was an Estonian artist from Tapa, Estonia. Vabbe is best remembered for his avant-garde painting style and his graphic images. Vabbe helped found the Pallas art association and was involved with the Estonian Artsits’ Association.

Vabbe began his studies at the Anton Ažbe Art School in Munich, a thriving city for movements like expressionism and Art Nouveau. After completing his studies Vabbe returned to Estonia, where he worked as an art instructor.

Vabbe taught and exhibited in Tartu and Tallinn, Estonia’s largest cities. In addition to fine art, Vabbe illustrated an estimated sixty books. His illustrations can be described as cubist, futurist and expressionist.
