Konrad Mägi was an Estonian artist who made modern landscape paintings. Mägi was born in the Tartu Country of Estonia. His artistic training began in his childhood after he enrolled in drawing courses with the German Artisans Society of Tartu. Mägi continued his training in St. Petersburg and Paris, where Impressionist and Fauvist painters inspired his work. Mägi’s work became notably brighter in color and his brushwork became more experimental.

Mägi returned to Tartu in 1912, but continued to travel with frequency. Of all the places he visited, Mägi was greatly taken by the landscapes of Italy, which he painted with great passion. Mägi’s style drastically changed during his time in Italy, becoming more Expressionist than Impressionist.

Mägi is currently remembered as one of Estonia’s greatest modernist landscape painter. Many of his works are in the Art Museum of Estonia and Tartu Art Museum’s permanent collections.
