Gottlieb Welt was an Estonian artist from Mainz, Germany. Welt was mostly active in Estonia, where he produced a number of etchings and landscape paintings. In Estonia, Welt worked at the Pltsamaa Castle and at the Lohu manor, now known at Kohila Parish.
At the Lohu manor, Welt created fresco wall paintings, which have become his best-known works. The frescoes were rediscovered in 1960 after wallpaper that had been covering the frescoes was removed.
Welt was also active in Frankfurt, where he developed his nonconformist style and met other artists of the Enlightenment. While the location of many of his works is unknown, his etching and paintings have been found in private collections around the world.
