H.C. Delpy was born to a wealth family in the region of Yonne, France in 1842. Delpy is a master, landscape painter of the late 19th century. Delpy’s work is representative of his time at the Barbizon School and his study with master painters Corot and Daubigny.

Delpy’s landscapes can be described as naturalistic and serene. Delpy’s landscapes portray broad rivers at sunset with trees or figures on the riverbanks. Delpy stayed true to his style, never tempted by the loose-brush strokes, of Impressionism.

Delpy had considerable success as a salon painter in France. He became a member of the Society of French artists and participated in the World Exposition of 1900. Paris held two major exhibitions of his work in 1890 and 1908.
