Bernardo Bellotto was an 18th century Italian landscape painter. He was the nephew and student of Canaletto, and with his famous uncle, the two travelled and painted all over Italy. He travelled to Rome, Turin, Milan, Florence and Verona leaving paintings in each of these cities.
Bellotto moved to Dresden in 1747 and lived there for ten years, painting wonderful views of the city as well as commissions for notable people. He eventually sold his entire collection to Catherine II the Great of St. Petersburg, and gained enormous success throughout all of central Europe. He also worked for Empress Maria Theresa and visited Munich, as well as Warsaw, where he died in 1780.
