Pierre-Joseph Redoute was an 18th century Flemish painter. Redoute spent much of his life in France and was known for his paintings of flowers and plant life. He was born in Flanders into a family of artists and moved to Paris in 1782.

Redoute found fame as the official flower painter to Marie Antoinette, and later, to Empress Josephine and Queen Marie Amelie. Redout also created black and white flower sketches for botanical guides.

Though Redoute earned many commissions and was a well-known artist, he lived the high life and died it debt. Still wondering about an 18th or early 19th century French floral painting in your family collection? Contact us…it could be by Pierre-Joseph Redoute.
