Marcel Dreyfus was born in Paris, and as a young man was highly influenced by the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist styles of painting, particularly the style of Renoir. He originally began studying to become an engineer, but found his calling in art. In 1922, he moved to Arles to pursue his art career and kept a studio there for nearly 20 years.

He would spend his summers and winters in a number of different places, giving him a wide range of subjects and landscapes to paint. Dreyfus, or Dyf, the pseudonym he would adopt, traveled and worked all over France from Normandy to Cannes during his long and productive career. Dreyfus gained a great deal of notoriety not only in France, but in the United States, Canada, Germany and Algeria.

Though he had little artistic training, Dyf found a great deal of success at his Paris salon exhibits. His work quickly sold at galleries all over France from Marseille to Nice and even as far away as Strasbourg. During most of his career, Dyf was represented by Frost and Reed of London. He typically painted still-life and Impressionistic portraits and landscapes.

During his lifetime, Dyf also traveled to the United States, Venice, Holland, Morocco and England. He was a highly prolific artist who continued to work, standing instead of sitting at his easel, until his death. Today, his work is housed worldwide and possibly in your own home.
