Keith Haring was born in 1958 in central Pennsylvania. After movingto New York in 1978 and registering at School of Visual Arts, Haringbecame a key player in the club scene. Haring painted with andcollaborated with prominent graffiti/pop artists such as Jean-MichelBasquiat (aka SAMO). Drawing from African, Japanese, and MiddleEastern imagery, and mixing them with contemporary, everydayobjects, Keith Haring’s pictures emphasized accessible, universalsymbols.

In 1982, Keith Haring’s most famous image—Radiant Child—appeared on Times Square billboard.

Haring painted on empty subway posters, the Berlin Wall, as well as cars, buses, radios, telephones, and even hot air balloons.
