Efraim Allsalu was an Estonian artist who spent most of his life in Tartu, Estonia. Allsalu began his artist training in 1948 at the Tartu State Art Institute. In 1951, he continued his studies in Tallinn at the Estonian Academy of Arts. After completing his studies he returned to Tartu, where he became a teacher. Allsalu exhibited throughout the 1950s and 1960s, solidifying his reputation as one of Estonia’s great painters.

Allsalu’s paintings are in the permanent collection of the Art Museum of Estonia, which held a retrospective of his work in 2015. Allsalu’s work can also be found on select auction and gallery sites featuring Estonian artwork.

Allsalu’s career largely spanned the Soviet era, which strongly influenced all artwork at the time. While many of Allsalu’s paintings depict bouquets of flowers, in both representational and a semi-abstracted manner, he also created compositions of workers, nudes and countryside scenes.
