Louis-Gabriel Blanchet was an 18th century French painter. He mainly painted portraits of nobility and famous artists and musicians of 18th century Europe, as well as mythological scenes. He was active in Rome after winning second place in the Prix de Rome in 1727. In 1752, Blanchet painted the “Vision of Constantine” (now housed in the Louvre), which was a copy of a fresco at the Vatican. Art historians have compared his work as a portrait painter with that of fellow 18th century portrait painter Pompeo Girolamo Batoni.
