Sir William Beechey was an 18th and early 19th century British portrait and history painter. Beechey was originally trained as an attorney, and was eventually appointed court portraitist by King George III’s consort, Queen Charlotte.
Beechey was knighted in 1798, and today some of his best known works are housed in the Louvre.
